Senior Men's Finals Recap!

Last Saturday, the FRQ men's finals were hosted at Concordia University's Loyola campus in what was a successful rugby day for all divisions.
The MIRFC men's reserves faced their longtime rivals, Sainte-Annde-de-Bellevue RFC, in the hopes of retaining the cup. The first half saw a dominant performance from SABRFC as they put several tries on the board. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, the MIRFC men put in two tries to close the margin but were penalized with back-to-back sin bins -- for an eventual final score of 50-19 for SABRFC. Despite the loss, we saw some solid individual performances. Congratulations and we wish you the best of luck next season.
The MIRFC prems faced Club de Rugby de Québec in the grand final of the day. With a slow start, the CRQ led 6-0 for most of the first half. A break from scrum half Gareth Williams easily set up a two-on-one for winger Zach Hazan to score an unconverted try. The first half ended with the MIRFC trailing only by a point behind the CRQ.
The second half was a stronger performance from the Montreal Irish after some changes within our backline. The two unconverted tries that sealed the game for the MIRFC, however, were scored by our hooker Alfredo Cosentino. The finale whistle awarded the Montreal Irish a 25-11 victory over the CRQ, making them back to back Quebec champions!
As always, the third half was the most eventful with many solid performances of "We are the Champions" at Hurley's Irish Pub.
