Wake Up Call for MIRFC On Last Day of Season

On the Saturday morning preceeding the final games of the regular season, all three Montreal Irish men’s teams sat comfortably at the top of their respective tables. Perhaps too comfortably?
All three teams faced St Annes at their home ground. The day started well for the men in green with the third team winning 24-15. The 2nd team put on a lackluster performance and lost 27-10. The final game of the day to decide who finished top of the Super Ligue started as a close fought battle. However, St Annes eventually pulled away to win 36-16.
At the end of the day, the results from these games have little significance. The 3rd and 2nd teams had already secured top spots in their tables. The 1st team finish second in theirs to St Annes but the prize for finishing first is no better than that for finishing second. Both teams have a home advantage in the semi finals against the winners of the quarter finals. When people look back they will not remember who finished top of the league at the end of regular season. What matters is who wins the playoff finals to be crowned Champions of Quebec. With three weeks to go until those semi final games you can rest assured that the Irish boys will not be taking it easy – there is still plenty of work to be done to retain their titles and gain one more!
