MIRFC Juniors play great rugby at opening round robin

Good Morning,

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to those who gave up their time yesterday to help make, what was an excellent Junior Tournment and a congratulations to Coach Keane and our Juniors for putting on a fine display and going undefeated!!

The ‘Irish’ Junior team stepped onto the pitch in their brand new kit at aroun 9:40am and certainly looked the business just before kick off. Having been instructed as to what it means to pull on the green jersey and play at St Julie – they did not disappoint and went on to play some fantastic open, attacking, running rugby.

SDC10760The lads went undefeated throughout the tournament, beating an understrength TMR in the early stages and showing great resolve by coming back from a 10 point deficit to beat a burly Sherbrooke side in the final game. Whilst there were some fine individual trys (notably Fred on the right wing – who stripped the opposition defense for pace to score under the posts and Alex with a qucik tap and go) the last try of the day was a fantatsic team effort – with forwards and backs supporting each other, quick ruck ball and a slight of hand by Xavier, worthy of the greatest centre on earth (yes – Brian O’Driscoll), Fred managed to score again, but only because he provided great support running and both gave and received the pass on the loop, to beat the Sherbrooke cover defense in the corner.

Alfredo also had a very good game with some intelligent play and strong running, as did young Sammy Switchback – before an ankle injury forced him to pull up early in the tournament.

SDC10754The team was captained by Aaron who led by example and seemed to have a twin on the field, being involved in almost every tackle and ruck that occurred.

The lads were overjoyed with the result, as were the coaches and supporters, but this is just the beginning and it was obvious there were some areas of the game that need to be worked on.  This means everyone at training, if we want to continue winning! So keep an eye on the Junior facebook page and emails from Dave.

So best of luck for the rest of the season to our Juniors – we want you to know that the club is committed to developing and working with you and the junior programme and we want to see you all coming through and playing senior rugby with us in teh next year or two.
