The social traditions of the Montreal Irish RFC continued this past summer at The St Lawrence University Golf Club/BW University Inn, at the 41st annual MIRFC Canton Open golf weekend.
Approximately 70 attended the awards banquet Saturday night, following another successful golf day involving 11 foursomes and a ladies putting competition.
Our thanks, as usual, to the scorers’ tent (aka Rm. 249 of Messrs. Moroney & Robertson) for collating scores, despite doing so ‘under the unfluence’ of a massive beer haze!
A special award, contributed to by all in attendance, was awarded to Gordon Robertson following his recognition, by the Ontario government, for outstanding volunteer services to the game of squash. Gordon has himself also been Canadian Masters National Squash Champion more than once!
The annual Sunday Scramble event followed, a relaxed format with mixed teams made up from the Saturday results and prize money going to the top 3 teams! Thanks again to John Dennett who again co-ordinated this fun event.
We urge the rugby playing members of the Irish to attend next year with the dates for 2012 moved from the Canada Day w/e to Sat. & Sun., July 7 & 8.
A good weekend is assured among like minded, rugby-loving chums. Youngsters are welcome at this one-stop venue.
